Cinema meets the future at HUTECH
Future Frame Celebration Week (FFCW) brings film culture, creative technology, and education together in Ho Chi Minh City. Organized at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) by its Faculty of Communication and Design, the event gives students, filmmakers, artists, and international guests a shared place to watch new work, exchange production knowledge, and experience emerging forms of moving image.

One celebration, three complementary experiences
Film festival
FFCW introduces audiences to storytelling beyond a single screen format. Previous programmes have brought together international short films, stereoscopic work, vertical cinema, animation, films made with artificial intelligence, and virtual-reality experiences. Collections associated with Courant3D in France and Interfilm Berlin have connected the HUTECH audience with a wider international short-film culture.
The result is a festival environment in which a film can be appreciated as a story and discussed as a new way of making, distributing, or experiencing images.
Workshops at HUTECH University
The workshops turn the festival into a practical learning space. International specialists and local participants meet HUTECH students to discuss extended reality, virtual production, stereoscopic cinema, artificial intelligence, and the changing creative industries. Earlier editions welcomed contributors from France, South Korea, and Mexico.
Students are central to the event: they attend the sessions, test the technology, speak directly with visiting professionals, and take an active role in organizing the week. This makes FFCW part of the university’s educational life rather than a festival that merely happens on campus.
3D screenings in the cinema
Stereoscopic films deserve a proper collective presentation. FFCW gives 3D cinema a place within a broader conversation about future images, allowing an audience to experience depth on a large screen and then discuss the artistic and technical decisions behind it.
In 2024 the programme extended from HUTECH’s Saigon Campus to Galaxy Nguyễn Du Cinema in District 1. That combination of university workshops and cinema-scale presentation is especially valuable: participants can encounter the technology close up, then see how spatial filmmaking performs for a shared audience.
A campus becomes a spatial-media laboratory
FFCW extends beyond screenings. Installations and demonstrations invite visitors to move between augmented reality, virtual reality, spatial computing, 3D film, and AI-assisted production. The 2025 edition organized these experiences as five thematic “cities”:
- ARt City for augmented-reality art
- Virmo City for VR and spatial experiences, including Apple Vision Pro
- 3Depth City for stereoscopic images and 3D film
- Cine.Exe City for cinema shaped by emerging computational tools
- Meta City for international exchange and discussion
The structure made the campus itself part of the event. Instead of observing new technology from a distance, students could try it, compare formats, and question the people working with it.
Looking forward to October 2026
The next edition is planned for October 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City. Its strength will remain the encounter between people and formats: students meeting international practitioners, filmmakers seeing their work with an audience, and visitors moving naturally between a workshop room, an interactive installation, and a 3D cinema.
