1 Introduction

VR180 has become an important format for immersive storytelling.

Google introduced the format for consumer virtual reality cameras (Google 2018).

Apple Vision Pro has renewed interest in high-quality stereoscopic video (Apple Inc. 2024).

2 Capture

For this project we used

  • two Blackmagic Micro Studio Cameras
  • Samyang 7.5 mm fisheye lenses

3 Workflow

The production pipeline consists of

  1. Camera synchronization
  2. Color correction
  3. Stitching
  4. VR180 metadata
  5. HEVC export

5 Software

The conversion was performed using

  • DaVinci Resolve
  • custom Metal software
  • FFmpeg

6 Conclusion

VR180 remains one of the most efficient formats for immersive video.
